Two sides of a market, sharing one counter

Penang · Marketplace activation reporting

The first week on each side of the app, in writing.

We reconstruct how new buyers and new sellers in a marketplace app reach their first real participation — first order, first listing that can transact, first accepted job — and we brief the people who have to act on it.

01 — The stall behind the screen

Activation is a market event, not a login.

A marketplace app is still a market. Someone must put goods, a kitchen, a vehicle, or a spare part within reach, and someone else must take it. We write for operators who already have that app and need a truthful account of whether new accounts ever complete those acts.

Buyers

First consumption of supply

Paid first order, first completed trip, first booking kept. Registration and a browse session are arrivals, not participation. If the export cannot separate a hungry office worker in Prai from a stall owner, we stop at that sentence.

Sellers

First placement of supply

A live listing that can take a request, a kitchen that accepted an order during open hours, a driver who completed a first job. A photograph uploaded on Friday and ignored on Monday is not a stall that opened.

02 — Flagship engagement

The two-sided activation report.

One app, one agreed window, both participant groups. Definitions settled in a workshop before any funnel is drawn, so the document uses the language your team already argues in.

Two-sided activation report

A written account of how new buyers and new sellers in one marketplace app reach their first real participation, and where each side stalls.

Three to five weeks from a complete brief and a usable event export, depending on how messy the event names are. Quoted per engagement. A full two-sided report starts at RM 24,500. A single-side slice of the same method starts at RM 12,800. Travel for an in-person briefing is itemised.

Narrower studies when both sides are not the question.

Onboarding, seller supply, or a later cohort against definitions we already settled with you. These are not renamed versions of the same report.

Seller activation study

A study of how new sellers reach a first listing, a first accepted order, or a first completed job — the actions that actually put stock or labour onto the marketplace.

A follow-on reading of a later cohort against an activation definition we already settled with you, so you can see whether the same stalls still appear.

04 — From a kitchen in George Town

A report that changed what “live stall” meant.

Evidence on this site is qualitative. We do not publish blended scores. The story below is one operations lead’s reading of a two-sided report.

The report stopped us treating kitchen sign-ups as live supply. We had 140 new stalls in the export; only a third had accepted an order during opening hours in the window they studied. The briefing in George Town was plain. I still wish they had been harder on our address coverage in Seberang Perai — that chapter is shorter than the kitchen chapter, and coverage is half our complaint volume.

05 — How a briefing runs

Paper first. Then the room.

The method is the same whether we sit in Prai or on a video call: definitions, reconstruction, then a reading. The method page sets out the sequence in full.

  1. You send a brief naming the marketplace type, the two sides, and what you can export.
  2. We map events and refuse to draw a funnel through missing fields.
  3. A workshop settles the buyer action and the seller action in your words.
  4. You receive a draft, then a final report and a second briefing.

06 — Field notes

Notes from recent reports, not generic essays.
